Our link with Siena

The Collelungo farmhouse inside it presents well 12 different apartments, each of which, distinguished by its characteristic name linked to the districts of Siena.

The Contrade of Siena are known all over the world thanks to Historic Palio, but not everyone knows its origins and evolutions.

The Palio di Siena is held on July 2 and August 16 of each year in Piazza del Campo, in the historic center of the city, which for the occasion comes alive in a horse-riding race that sees contending for a palio - da pallium , precious fabric - among 10 out of 17 of the historic Contrade di Siena.

The 17 Contrade that we know today were defined in 1729 with the "Ban on the Borders" of the Governor Violante Beatrice of Bavaria and are:

Eagle, Caterpillar, Snail, Owl, Dragon, Giraffe, Porcupine, Leocorn, She-wolf, Nicchio, Goose, Wave, Panther, Selva, Tartuca, Torre, V'aldimontone.

The districts are represented by the coats of arms with the animals and traditional colors. The Terzo di città is the oldest part of Siena and includes: the Nobile Contrada dell'Aquila, the Contrada della Chiocciola, the Contrada Capitana dell'Onda, the Contrada della Pantera, the Contrada della Selva, the Contrada della Tartuca.

The Terzo di Camollia corresponds to the northern part of the city and includes: the Noble Contrada del Bruco, the Contrada del Drago, the Imperial Contrada della Giraffa, the Contrada Sovrana dell'Istrice, the Contrada della Lupa, the Nobile Contrada dell ' Goose.

The Terzo di San Martino, formed around the Via Francigena, includes: the Contrada Priora della Civetta, the Contrada del Leocorno, the Contrada del Nicchio, the Contrada della Torre, the district of Valdimontone.
